Comopolitan of Las Vegas

It’s the middle of summer and you’re looking to skip work early on a Friday and travel to Las Vegas. If you are wondering where to stay, look no further than

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Las Vegas’ latest all encompassing resort and casino reminds me of a W Hotel but on a must larger scale. Forget the fact that it’s Las Vegas and has a casino, and look at the rest of the property. With stylish and chic décor throughout, one can’t help become infatuated with the resort within the first few minutes, especially the moment you enter the lobby and encounter video screen pillars of rotating art. Amenities alone, from the six bars to grab a drink from on the casino floor, myriad of dining options, three pools, state of the art spa and fitness facilities, it’s really a recipe for not having to leave the property at all while in Las Vegas.

Now if I were planning a weekend at the Cosmopolitan, here’s what I would suggest are your travel tips for ensuring a perfect summer weekend.

Secure yourself a Wraparound Terrace Suite. Why? Because it is one of the best room options in all of Las Vegas with views of the Bellagio Fountains as well as the south end of The Strip to Mandalay Bay. Your suite at the Cosmopolitan checks in at 1200 sq. ft. complete with a king size bed, C.O. Bigelow amenities in the bathroom, flat screen televisions, a modern kitchenette and just in case you need to do laundry, a full size washer/dryer.

Next it’s time to hit the pool and catch some of that summer’s sunshine. Head over to the Boulevard Pool, which provides quite the scene from hot bodies to killer views of The Strip. Saunter up to one of the bars for a quenching cocktail and if swimming and sun bathing doesn’t sound good enough, there is ping pong, pool and shuffleboard at your disposal for entertainment.

For some pre-dinner cocktails make sure to hit up Vesper Bar right off the lobby. A fantastic mixology program is in place to offer you some special libations that you’ll be dreaming about for days and weeks to come.

Now there are a lot of great dining options at the Cosmopolitan but a top for me is Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill. The famed hybrid restaurant from New York courtesy of brothers Bruce and Eric Bromberg serves some of best cuisine in town. With daily deliveries from Japan it’s no wonder you’ll be enjoying some of the freshest seafood anywhere including the best Mackerel and Albacore Tuna I have ever had. If fish isn’t your thing, have no fear as the Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken served with a honey, wasabi dipping sauce is to die for as is the Oxtail Fried Rice and Duroc Pork Ribs. For dessert there is only one thing you should be ordering, Ginger Bread Pudding, deliciousness.

To cap off a great summer day and night in Las Vegas, head to Marquee Nightclub located inside the Cosmopolitan, which right now is the hottest nightclub in the country. Over 65,000 sq. ft. of indoor, outdoor, multi-level club space gives you plenty of partying options. The music format of the main room and outside pool area is electronic dance music where you’ll be sure to hear all the top electronic tracks. If you sneak away upstairs to The Library; you’ll hear more eclectic sounds in a relaxing environment. However, my favorite part of Marquee can be found downstairs in the Boom Box Room where a more top-40, hip-hop music format reigns supreme. You can easily get lost in the club for hours and when it’s 5 a.m. and the party is still thumping, you’ll know why you decided to go to Marquee this summer.

Some additional musts when staying at Cosmopolitan:

The Chandelier – A three story bar that is gorgeous and features live music each night, specialty cocktails and a great spot for people watching

Bond – If you’re not set on waiting in line and paying cover to hit up a nightclub, head over to Bond where there is no line, no cover but feels as if you are in a nightclub with DJs, go-go dancers and stiff cocktails

D.O.C.G. – Awesome pizza and wine bar from Scott Conant of Scarpetta

STK – Hip, trendy and always good eye candy, the steakhouse at the hotel and a great spot to stop in for at least a drink and get your night started off right

P3 Studio – A rotating art exhibit on the third floor which currently features Kid Robot

A Traveller’s Harlequin Romance!

He grasped her firmly, but gently, just above her elbow and guided her into a room, his room. Then he quietly shut the door and they were alone. He approached her soundlessly, from behind, and spoke in a low, reassuring voice close to her ear.

“Just relax.”

Without warning, he reached down and she felt his strong, calloused hands start at her ankles, gently probing, and moving upward along her calves, slowly but steadily.
Her breath caught in her throat.

She knew she should be afraid, but somehow she didn’t care. His touch was so experienced, so sure. When his hands moved up onto her thighs, she gave a slight shudder and partly closed her eyes. Her pulse was pounding.

She felt his knowing fingers caress her abdomen, her ribcage and then, as he cupped her firm, full breasts in his hands, she inhaled sharply.

Probing, searching, knowing what he wanted, he brought his hands to her shoulders, slid them down her tingling spine and into her panties.

Although she knew nothing about this man, she felt oddly trusting and expectant. This is a man, she thought. A man used to taking charge. A man not used to taking ‘No’ for an answer. A man who would tell her what he wanted.
A man who would look into her soul and say . . . .

“Okay ma’am, you can board your flight now.”

If the thought of camping in the wild has the same appeal as a root canal for you; conjuring images of storms and leaking tents, wild animals, and bugs, then glamorous camping, or “glamping” may be a welcome option.

Glamping isn’t a new concept, but has existed in Africa for years. Fairmont Hotels and Resorts operate four spectacular properties in Kenya that combine to create a perfect balance of luxurious accommodation with game viewings and cultural insights. The  8-day Royal Concorde Safari is perfect for those short on time and wishing to experience the ultimate safari without compromising on luxury.

The journey begins in Nairobi with a night at the prestigious and historic Fairmont Norfolk, a landmark property set in private tropical gardens. Be sure to treat yourself to a meal at the notable Lord Delamere Terrace; it has been the city’s most famous meeting place since its opening in1904, and offers an extensive a la Carte menu.

After a good nights sleep, your adventure begins at Aberdare National Park, with a stay at The Ark. The Ark resembles the actual Ark, with numerous balconies and lounges overlooking a floodlit waterhole and a saltlick which attracts a host of wildlife, including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, and bushbuck, besides other rare creatures such as the suni, and genet cat. For a great photographic location, there is a ground level bunker, from where you can view the wildlife as they visit the area (occasionally an elusive bongo and giant forest hog have been sighted). And if you are worried you may miss a leopard sneaking at night to the waterhole, there is even a buzzer system in each room that alerts of approaching wildlife!

Leaving Aberdare National Park, continue on to Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, a sprawling country-club style lodge. Situated on the foothills of Mount Kenya, the property is set in over 100 acres of landscaped gardens. Originally the retreat of movie star and Club founder, William Holden, the Club’s illustrious former members have included Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby. In fact scenes from the 1987 movie “White Mischief” were filmed here.

The club offers glorious views of the mountain and forest, delightful gardens, a 9-hole golf course and a splendid colonial-style ambience with roaring log fires. And on the neighbouring ranch is the non-profit animal orphanage, focusing on the reintroduction of the endangered Mount Kenya antelope – the bongo.

With two nights at the Mount Kenya Safari Club, there is ample time for golf, horseback riding, trout fishing, croquet, tennis, bowling green, and much more. Included in your stay is a visit to Sweetwaters Wildlife Sanctuary for a game drive to see all of the “Big 5” and also to visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The sanctuary project was initiated in part by The Jane Goodall Institute, and houses a colony where chimps can be introduced, rehabilitated and taught to fend for themselves in an area similar to their natural living conditions.

The final 3 nights of the journey are spent at the Fairmont Mara Safari Club in the heart of the Masai Mara. This really is the epitome of tented luxury, featuring four poster, pillow-top beds and a veranda overlooking the hippo and crocodile-filled river.

Each tent is superbly furnished, including a number of “outdoor showers” in select tents. You even have your own personal Maasai Warrior guarding your tent! The larger-sized Masai Mara accommodations also feature expanded decks which allow for private dining, a new service. The main lodge of Fairmont Mara Safari Club is at the center of camp and hosts an incredible restaurant; but for a truly authentic experience, dine outdoors by the boma, a structure influenced by traditional homesteads.

The seemingly endless plains of the Masai Mara are filled with game as far as the eye can see.  The annual migration takes place when millions of zebras, wildebeest and gazelle go in search of fresh green grass.  Rest assured though, even if you’re not in the Mara over the migration, you will still see animals in abundance.  After a good day’s game viewing, return to the lodge. Enjoy a dip in the pool and then relax on your own private deck with an ice cold drink as you watch a spectacular African sunset and reflect on your day.  Call us for your Glamping Safari!
